Emil Boc to cut five government agencies, axe more than 1300 jobs

The number of structures answering to Prime Minister Emil Boc will be cut from 21 to 16.

State adviser Cătălin Baba announced that, out of the 1,317 positions to be eliminated, some 1,000 are occupied at the moment.

For instance, the Romanian Foreign Investment Agency will be disbanded, 10 positions will be cut, and its attributions will be taken over by the Ministry for Small And Medium Enterprises. The Agency for Clearing Special Technology Acquisitions will also be disbanded, and see 10 of its positions cut, and its duties will be taken over by the Ministry of the Economy. The National Office for Hero Remembrance will become a department of the Ministry of Defense and shed 12 jobs.

The Agency for Governmental Strategies will be disbanded and will see 9 people laid off, and its remaining employees will continue their operations as part of the General Secretariat of the Government.

The National Office for the Prevention of Money Laundering is an institution that is required by the EU Accession Treaty, and will therefore continue to exist and will retain its current number of positions - 104 occupied positions and 26 vacant positions. The State Inspectorate for Constructions will be maintained due to the EU"s requests that Romania have an independent body for assessing building safety, but it will shed 50 positions. The existence of the National Antidoping Agency is also mandated by the EU, however it will see 17 vacant positions scrapped. ANRE - (Romanian Energy Regulatory Authority) also required by the EU - will scrap 97 jobs (40 occupied and 57 vacant), and the National Nuclear Activities Watchdog will shed 34 jobs.

The National Statistics Institute (INS), The State Secretariat for Issues of the Participants in the Revolution, ORNISS (National Registry Office for Classified Information), and the National Council for Solving Contestations will not undergo any reorganization. The Romanian Office for Adoptions - required under the Geneva Convention - will lose 6 positions.

ANSVSA (National Sanitary Veterinary and Food Safety Authority) will lose 920 jobs, and ANRMAP (National Authority for Regulating and Overseeing Public Procurement) - also required by the agreements with the EU - will scrap 29 jobs.

The Romanian Rroma Agency will shed 8 jobs.

AVAS (Romanian Authority For State Assets Recovery) will shed 88 jobs, of which 68 are occupied and 20 are vacant, and the National Agency for Mineral Resources (ANRM) will scrap 8 jobs.

The National Prognosis Commission will shed 15 jobs, of which 6 still vacant. The Institute for Investigating Crimes of the Communism Regime will merge with the National Institute for the Remembrance of Romanian Exiles to create the Institute for Investigating Communist Crimes and Remembrance of Romanian Exiles, and will pare down 4 jobs.
