Electricity distributor E.ON Moldova invested some 40 million EUR last year, mostly in Iasi County and Bacau County according to spokesman Lucian Luca. He said that the budget had been allocated as per the number of failures in each area. Whereas the EU average is 8 failures per 100 sq.km, in Moldova, the average is 40 failures per 100 sq.km. The company is focusing on improving infrastructure in order to significantly reduce the average number of failures and improve service quality over the next two years. E.ON acquired Electrica Moldova in mid-2005 for an initial 31.4 million EUR for 24.62 percent and then increased their stake to 51 percent through a 68.6 million EUR capital injection.
