The Finance Ministry will ask the Government to consider an infrastructure development plan worth some 20 billion EUR until 2013. If approved, the plan will be included in the budget rectification scheduled for July and the budgets for 2009 and 2010. In the meantime, Finance Minister Varujan Vosganian said he would ask County Councils to present a status of road infrastructure in their area of competence. According to the minister, the priority of the plan is to build some 1,000 - 1,500 kilometers of highway. "The sum is 2.5 times larger than everything allocated for this purpose in the last four years," Vosganian said, explaining that the reasons for not allocating too much money to infrastructure included the pension reform and school infrastructure. According to him, some 5,000 schools in rural communities had been repaired. "The Government will receive a report on ongoing projects, pending projects and needed projects in order to select priorities for EU fund absorption," Vosganian added.
