Construction works on the Fish Exchange will most likely start next year, according to Gheorghe Stefan, president of the National Agency for Fishery and Aquaculture (ANPA). While attending the Day of the Danube Delta Biosphere Reservation, Stefan said the feasibility study had already been started to build the Fish Exchange in Tulcea.
"The construction works will probably start next year. It will benefit fishermen because they will be the ones setting the price of fish. Moreover, the State will know exactly what quantities have been caught. We will also have control over product traceability and be able to better fight the black market," Stefan said. He added that the project would cost some 5 million EUR from non-reimbursable foreign funding. Construction works have been estimated to take some 2 years. So far, the biggest challenge in the way of the project has been the appropriate land for the construction.
