Businesspeople that invest in football don"t seem to be too interested in the shares of the Proprietatea Fund. Its coming listing on the Bucharest Stock Exchange does not make it any more attractive to the owners of First League football clubs, who seem to be extremely skeptical about its future.
The owner of FC Braşov, Ioan Neculae, which owns the Roman group of companies, says he won"t invest any more money in funds: "I"m not a fan of investment funds. For instance, I lost quite a lot of money on SIF Transilvania, when the stock market fell. I asked some questions just last week, I talked to my broker and I"ve decided to stay away. It could be just another bubble. I believe in creating value through manufacturing".
The chairman of FC Timişoara and of Balkan Petroleum, Marian Iancu, is not interested in the stock market: "I haven"t asked for information concerning the Proprietatea Fund, so it is out of the question to buy stock in it. At this moment, I am not investing in the market".
Vasile Turcu, the shareholder of Dinamo, who also owns the Romconstruct holding, is a lot more vehement: "There is no way I am going to buy shares in this fund. I am in the market myself, I watch it closely, I have information. Based on that, and on what I"ve seen in the media, with the indecent salaries and the money they"re wasting, I find it hard to believe that Fund will ever turn out a profit. That"s just my opinion, I don"t have anything against anybody that works there. I personally don"t trust any Romanian fund. I"m worried it will just be another scam like the FNI was. It"s simply been artificially pumped. I would like a healthy fund, that would be attractive for businessmen, but I can almost see some poor retirees spending their hard earned savings on shares of the Fund and getting creamed. In this country, anybody can just come, scam some suckers and then leave. I thought the Proprietatea Fund would be something else, that it would make actual investments.".
