Ford has denied an article published in the Slovakian press indicating that they were going to build a plant in that country. Ford representatives told Reuters that the company was still interested in the Daewoo plant in Craiova, Romania. The Slovakian newspaper Hospodarske Noviny quoted market sources indicated that Ford was planning to build a factory in Kechnec, Eastern Slovakia, where Ford was already building gearboxes in partnership with Getrag.

Todd Nissen, spokesman for Ford Europe, described the information as "speculations," saying he could not confirm any of the remarks included in the newspaper. Nissen reiterated Ford"s interest in Daewoo. "Eastern Europe is a growing market and we are thinking of ways to expand our presence there. We are preparing an offer for the plant in Romania," he said. Bids for the State"s 72.4% in the Daewoo - Craiova factory are welcome until July 5th.
