Forests are often referred to as treasures, and this holds true from various perspectives, including the financial one. The National Forest Administration (Romsilva) in Romania has generated revenues of approximately 35 million lei from hunting activities and the sale of forest fruits, truffles, mushrooms, and medicinal plants by the end of November 2023, according to data provided by the administrator of state-owned forests. The highest sums were collected from the sale of forest fruits, exceeding 10.548 million lei, and consumable mushrooms, totaling 10.566 million lei. Additionally, 3.882 million lei were obtained from truffle sales, 3.834 million lei from the sale of medicinal plants, and an additional 224,988 lei from mushroom sales. Furthermore, from organizing hunting actions, Romsilva collected over 3.74 million lei, with 1.129 million lei from the sale of game meat, and 969,020 lei from the sale of live pheasants. Romsilva manages 242 hunting grounds, owns 27 directly productive trout farms, and three pheasantries in Gherghiţa, Pişchia, and Ghimpaţi. The National Forest Administration - Romsilva estimates total revenues of 3.65 billion lei for 2023, a turnover of 3.2 billion lei, and a gross profit of 250 million lei. The primary activity of the administration is timber exploitation. For 2024, Romsilva anticipates a slight decrease in economic indicators compared to the previous year, with projected total revenues of 3.5 billion lei, a turnover of 3.1 billion lei, and a gross profit of 200 million lei. Representatives of Romsilva state that these indicators are proposed to be achieved amid market volatility, decreasing prices for timber sales, and increased personnel expenses due to the rise in the gross minimum wage. The National Forest Administration - Romsilva manages 3.13 million hectares of state-owned forests, approximately 48% of the country's forests, and provides forestry services for around one million hectares of forests under other forms of ownership. All state-owned forests hold international certification for forest management. Additionally, Romsilva manages 22 national and natural parks, along with 12 state-owned stud farms.
