Four regional divisions of the Romanian Railways Company could be shut down

The Ministry of Transports requested a third restructuring version of CFR Călători, the passenger division of the Romanian Railways, a project which will include the shutdown of four regional divisions, said Iulian Măntescu, the chairman of the Federation of Locomotive Drivers, quoted by Agerpres. "It is supposed to come out by Wednesday. The Ministry of Transports requested a third version of the project, since the Board of Directors rejected the first two", Măntescu said.

According to him, wages at the Romanian Railways would see cuts of 25 to 28% in all three divisions, by cutting Christmas and Easter bonuses, and by laying off around 7,000 employees.

"The surprising thing with CFR Marfă is that the programs were supposedly forwarded to the Ministry and approved by the Board of Directors and the General Shareholder Meeting in November last year. We were not aware of anything of the kind. We just know that there is one version with 3,000 or 3,100 employees and another one with 4,325 employees, if the unions refuse to accept certain wage cuts", Măntescu said.
