The board of the IMF is concerned with the ability of the Romanian authorities to continue their reforms (because spending needs to be kept under control) and to take measures to increase tax collection, said the representative of the IMF, Jeffrey Franks.

Franks said the following, quoted by Mediafax: "The members of the board of the IMF are concerned about the continuation of the effort of the Government to implement those policies. It is not just a matter of approving the reform measures, Romania must also uphold its commitments, keep expenses under control and to continue collecting the revenues to the public budget, in order to reach a positive result".

On the other hand, Franks said that the members of the Board of Directors of the IMF were very pleasantly surprised with the speed with which the government managed to come up with an alternative solution to the pension cut, after the decision of the Constitutional Court deeming the pension cut was unconstitutional. The decision of the executive was to raise VAT from 19% to 24%, a measure which was also proposed by the IMF.
