EnglishOver 3 km of streetcar rails on the Dunărea Neighborhood- Frunzei street route in the city of Galaţi will be renovated using European funding, with a total cost of ten million Euros. The Gala i City Hall co-financed 10% of the amount. The modernization of the streetcar lines will include several stages of work, including the renovation of the road and asphalt work, modernization of the streetcar rails, renovation of the sidewalks and greenways, but also insuring the renovation of the water mains and sewer system in the area.
Dumitru Nicolae, the mayor of Galaţiului, clarified: "This is the second project in the country that has been approved. The first one was approved in Oradea, approximately four years ago. We will try to work on one rail and keep the other one working". Mr. Nicolae stated that, right now, work is under way on the execution details, with the works to begin in February 2009.
