Gaudeamus Book Fair Awards

The Gaudeamus Book Fair was once again a success with the public. Humanitas, Litera and Polirom Publishing Houses, as well as Professor Liviu Franga, translator Claudiu Sfirschi-Lăudat and French journalist and translator Laure Hinckel are among the winners of the 2024 edition of the Gaudeamus Radio Romania Book Fair. The Gaudeamus Trophies, awarded by public vote, were: 1. Art Editorial Group and Humanitas Publishing House; 2. Litera Publishing House; 3. Bookzone Publishing House; 4. Polirom Publishing House; 5. Gama Publishing House. The Education Award went to the Bucharest Academy of Economic Sciences. The Excellence Award, awarded by a jury consisting of Ion Bogdan Lefter and Cristian Teodorescu, was awarded to Vremea Publishing House, "for its complex and elegant cultural project". The award consists of partial financing of an editorial project with the amount of 10,000 lei. The "Antoaneta Ralian" Translation Award, awarded by a jury consisting of Denisa Comănescu and Ion Bogdan Lefter: "For translation from a foreign language into Romanian - Liviu Franga, for the translation of the work "The Knights" by Aristophanes, published by Eikon Publishing House, in 2024, for the "vigorous restoration of a great dramatic work of ancient Greek classicism"; - Claudiu Sfirschi-Lăudat, for the translation from Greek of the work "Loxandra" by Maria Iordanidou, published in 2024 by Curtea Veche Publishing House, for the "picturesque transposition of a novel reconstructing neo-Greek civilization - the 19th - 20th centuries". For translation from Romanian into a foreign language - Laure Hinckel, for the French projection of little Paris towards big Paris in a bilingual photo album". At this edition of Gaudeamus, the Prize for the Most Coveted Book of the Fair, traditionally established by public vote, could not be awarded, as "the public's options were extremely varied and none of the volumes proposed by visitors stood out from the other proposals," the organizers stated.
