Several German companies from the area of Gelsenkirchen have asked the mayor of the town of Dorsten, Lambert Lutkenhorst, to investigate the prospect of relocating several business because of the global financial crisis, which has the potential to become an economic crisis. Carol Ambrus, a member of the Steering Committee of the Brasov Chamber of Commerce, said the matter referred to several manufacturers of car parts, which are ready to relocate production to Brasov, due to the existence of qualified labor and necessary infrastructure left from the former State companies in the area.
The news came amid several announcements that German companies operating in Brasov were planning to cut jobs. INA Schaeffer said they would not extend the contracts of 600 temporary employees, while Rolem - Codlea announced 1,000 layoffs at the beginning of 2009.
