Good thing that Băsescu stayed home!

The voluntaryism of the prime minister and of the president (a character trait they share) turns the people of Romania into a collateral victim.

The people is us- you, who read this, and I who am writing it.

The country is the room I write in, the street beneath my window, my family, and again, you and me.

But these guys that I write and you are reading about, have nothing to do with the country and people.

They've got nothing to do with you, with me or you.

THE POSTURING OF VICTOR PONTA

The usurping of the prerogatives of the president, which Prime Minister Victor Ponta stooped to, by going to represent us in Brussels, contrary to the constitutional provisions (using as an excuse an interpretation validated by the Constitutional Court), does not necessitate any effort in describing it - it is pure devil-may-care attitude.

The gesture seems to be a palace coup d'etat with the help of bureaucrats - the Ministry of Foreign Affairs did not send to Brussels the list of guests drafted by the president. Instead, as the Prime Minister wanted, it sent another list, drafted by the prime minister.

Of course, this is a dirty blow, to which Băsescu reacted in a civilized manner, by staying home, to avoid causing a show in the political center of Europe.

Ponta seems to want nothing else but to humiliate Băsescu, an intention which was unwittingly disclosed by Crin Antonescu, in a recent speech, when he labeled Băsescu as "the alpha male".

In the case of animals living in herds, "the alpha male" is the leader whose supremacy can only be eliminated by the young males, through direct battle, and what Ponta did is precisely that - a sudden descent into animal behavior.

Ponta did not trample democracy, he trampled society.

He didn't care about us one iota.

He wants to rule the herd.

He sees it a matter of posturing.

THE POSTURING OF BĂSESCU

President Traian Băsescu was decent yesterday, in his televised intervention, explaining why he didn't go to Brussels.

He was balanced, responsible, even cordial.

All of it, until he got to explaining why Ponta is not ready for the problems which will be discussed in Brussels and why he, on the other was hand was qualified to talk about them.

The president said that in Brussels are going to be discussed the measures for giving away the sovereignty of the country:

"Today's agenda is a lot more subtle than it seems. For more than a year and a half, - and please excuse me for arrogating this merit of being one of the EU leaders who talked about the United States of Europe - the document which will be discussed today and will not appear in the Conclusions of the discussion is the assignment of sovereignty."

Who gave Traian Băsescu the mandate to assign the sovereignty of the state?

On the contrary, I thought that the Oath taken upon being sworn in as president stipulates that the President is supposed to uphold the sovereignty of the state, as exposed by the Constitution.

Excuse him for assuming the merit?!

Oh we'll excuse him alright, in fact, we'll do more than that; we'll accuse him.

What gives you the right to speak about the United States of Europe, Mr.?!

Did you ask any of us, did you ask me or those who are reading this right now, if we grant you the right to get us involved in something like that?

For me at least, the Warsaw Pact was enough.

I don't want you getting us involved in another, centered around in Brussels.

Maybe our readers do.

But, really, ask us, Mr. Băsescu!

You ask for our opinion about all kinds of crap like whether we want a Parliament with just one Chamber, but when it comes to this you no longer ask us whether we agree?

You're definitely off your rocker, man!

Compared to you, Ponta is nothing but a little wildchild...

THE ROMANIAN CONSTITUTION

ARTICLE 2

(1) National sovereignty belongs to the Romanian people, which exerts it through its representative institutions, created through free, periodic and fair elections, as well as through a referendum.

(2) No group or individual can exert sovereignty in their own name.

ARTICLE 82 (2)

The candidate whose election was validated takes the following oath in front of the Chamber of Deputies and the Senate, assembled in a joint session: "I swear to use all my power and abilities for the spiritual and material progress of the Romanian people, to honor the Constitution and the laws of the country, to defend democracy, rights and fundamental freedoms of the citizens, the sovereignty, independence, unity and territorial integrity of Romania. So help me God!".
