Gheorghe Flutur, Vice President of the Democrat Liberal Party (PD-L) yesterday announced that Prime Minister Emil Boc had asked the Ministry of Economy and the Ministry of Finance to find solutions to have the European Commission authorize State guarantees for the chemical plant Oltchim in Ramnicu Valcea.

"The Prime Minister asked for solutions on State guarantees and the procedures by which the European Commission authorizes State guarantees so as to allow the plant to continue to function in the near future," Flutur said at the end of a coalition meeting.

Oltchim - Ramnicu Valcea concluded the first quarter of the year with losses of 28.1 million RON, nearly eight times more than in Q1-2008, following a 39% turnover plunge, the company announced at the end of April, NewsIn reported.

Early last week, nearly 2,000 Oltchim employees staged protests against the Government"s failure to issued promised State guarantees. "One by one, President Traian Basescu, the Finance Minister and the Economy Minister promised that we would not lose our jobs because we would receive, with EU"s approval, a State-guaranteed loan of 100 million euros. These protests are meant to warn them that the time has come to deliver on their promises," the Oltchim union leader said.

According to the emergency ordinance of the Government on the budget rectification, the overall value of State guarantees to be issued in 2009 is 6 billion RON.
