The merger of the Bucharest Stock Exchange and of Sibex is a necessity, and the discussions on the merger will become increasingly serious by summer, Grigore Chiş, the general manager of "Broker" Cluj said yesterday, one of the most influential independent brokerage firms, which has one official on each of the boards of directors of the two exchanges.

"What would be the benefit of the merger? We are talking about two paupers that would become richer if they joined together", says Chiş, the odds of the shareholders of the two exchanges reaching an agreement are far greater now in times of crisis, when they have reached the end of their ropes.

"The real issue here remains the parity between the shares of Sibex and those of the BSE. The prices of the two stocks are less relevant in themselves, because it also depends on the liquidity of the issuer. We had informal talks with people in the market and we have reached the conclusion that most of them want the merger to happen, we hope it will take place as soon as possible", Chiş added.
