Günthart AG wants to manufacture chocolate in Făgăraş

Swiss company Günthart AG, specializing in the production of chocolate, is assessing the Romanian market, with a view of opening a plant in Romania as well. According to some market sources, two locations are given increased attention - Făgăraş and Mediaş. The sources claim that such a plant would create at least 400 jobs.

The company currently has over 2,000 employees in over nine countries. The company was set up in 1946 by Ernst Günthart in the Swiss town of Niederhasli. As the number of German customers began to grow, in 1956 Günthart decided to relocate the company's headquarters in Germany, in Hohentengen, as export duties from Germany to Switzerland were lower than those on exports from Switzerland to Germany.

The company currently has plants in Germany, Switzerland, Austria, Holland, Belgium, France, Italy, Great Britain, Thailand and Russia, which is the latest country which Günthart expanded to.

Two years ago, Braşov lost a major chocolate maker, as the Americans of Kraft Foods chose to move their production facilities to Bulgaria. Part of their production was taken over by the Raptronic group of companies, based in Braşov, which produces the Chokotoff candy and the Smash chocolate bars in the factory it owns in Ghimbav.
