German group Hornbach, one of the largest operators of DIY stores and garden centers in Europe, will invest over 200 million EUR in Romania by 2015, according to company representatives. Hornbach plans to open ten hypermarkets in Romania"s main cities.
The first Hornbach store in Bucharest has a surface area of approximately 24,000 square meters and will be launched today. The investment amounts to some 25 million EUR. The DIY store has a retail surface of 9,000 square meters, while the garden center measures over 5,000 square meters. The sture also includes a 10,000 square meter Drive-In. The company plans to open four other stores in Bucharest, one of which should be launched in approximately one year.
Hornbach Group consists of three companies: Hornbach-Baumarkt AG, Hornbach Baustoff Union GmbH and Hornbach Immobilien AG. Established in 1877, the group is currently present in eight European countries and has over 12,000 employees. Hornbach Group operates 124 DIY stores, of which 91 in Germany and the rest in Austria, the Netherlands, Olanda, Cehia, Elveţia, Suedia, Slovenia, Luxemburg.
