The Iasi City Hall and the Iasi Environment Agency have prepared a "Air Quality Management Programme for The Iasi Metropolitan Area" in a bid to reduce air pollution in the city. Among others, the authorities intend to finish the ring road, limit car traffic on certain streets, plant additional vegetation alongside streets and boulevards and continue asphalting all dirt roads and streets covered in paving stones. Also, the Environment Agency is determined to find a way to force construction companies to set up a carwash for every construction site in order to prevent trucks and other heavy vehicles from leaving the site unclean.

"According to the environmental laws, all construction yards must have a carwash to clean vehicles before they leave the premises. Another related measure would be to make them wash or sweep the streets near construction yards on a 100 meter radius every day. Generally speaking, the plans to reduce air pollution are closely related to the modernization of the main polluters in the city. Dust is the city"s biggest problem in terms of air pollution and that has been measured in several areas of the city," said Mihai Chirica, Technical Director of the Iasi City Hall.
