A new tender will take place Monday, 6 July, to award the contract for the rehabilitation and modernization of transportation infrastructure in the cross-border area of Iaşi - Ungheni on National Road 249. The project comprises works on the section of road connecting Cristesti and Manzatesti, respectively between km. 7+200 and km. 9+900. The estimated value of the works is nearly 2 million RON, excluding VAT.

"The main works to be performed within this investment project will reinforce the structure of the road, correct the geometry, repair the surface, ensure the proper drainage of rainwater and repair or install proper traffic signs," said Sebastian Tataru, Spokesman for the Iaşi County Council.

The programme is financed by the European Union via the cross-border cooperation programme PHARE CBC 2005 between Romania and the Republic of Moldova. The general objective of the programme is to rehabilitate the cross-border infrastructure. A first tender for this contract was held nearly two months ago, but the contract could not be awarded because of a contestation filed by one of the seven bidders. The contestation was validated by the National Council for Contestation Resolution.
