The mayoralty of Iaşi won EUR 278,526 in funding, following its involvement in the ReTina project-"Revitalization of the former industrial areas", unfolded through the SEE Program (South-Eastern Europe). The mayoralty will use these funds to fund several studies on the revitalization of the industrial area of Ia i. This project involves the elaboration of an investment master plan, a feasibility study and of a branding project for a certain area of the city. On top of that, the mayoralty will launch a model contest which is open for all the young architects in Ia i.
Ana Rogojinaru, an official of the Ia i mayoralty said: "The purpose of this project is to select an area, such as Nicolina, for instance, which once had large industrial constructions, and revitalize it. We will try to create a brand for the area in question, such as a converting it into a technology park or an industrial park. Under no circumstances will we build homes or malls. All the ideas will be put up for auction in order to find strategic investors to implement them". The mayoralty will only contribute 2% of the necessary funding, with the rest coming from the European Union and the Romanian state. The duration of the project is 36 months.
