IBM Romania, the local subsidiary of the leading global provider of IT services, has reported a Y2008 turnover in the amount of 187,734,509 RON, up by 23.2% from the 152,354,277 RON reported for 2007, according to company information published on the website of the Finance Ministry, NewsIn reported.
The net profit gained 22.9% from 12,054,956 RON in 2007 to 14,815,820 RON in 2008, according to the data of the Finance Ministry. The company concluded last year with an average headcount of 435 employees.
International Business Machines Corp. (IBM), the world"s largest provider of technological services, announced in mid-July that the profit made in the second quarter of 2009 had increased by 12% to 3.1 billion USD, above the analysts" estimates.
The company had previously posted a net profit of 2.77 billion USD for the second quarter of 2008. Sales, however, decreased by 13% to 23.3 billion USD. Current estimates indicate that the Y2009 profit will be at least 9.7 USD/share, up from the previous estimate of 9.2 USD/share.
IBM originally opened a subsidiary in Romania in 1967 and was forced to close it in 1980, because of the political and economic context at that time. IBM returned to the Romanian market in May 1990, when IBM World Trade Corporation acquired Romanian Business Systems (RBS) and formed IBM Alliance Company, which changed name to IBM Romania SRL in 1995.
