Ikea"s sales passed the 100 million Euros threshold in 2008, with over 13 million items reaching the households of Romanians last year, according to a press release by the company.
The number of store visitors passed the three million mark, while total sales reached 104,7 million Euros (VAT included). The biggest turnover was in September, after the launch of the new catalog, which lead to 9,4 million Euros in sales, and 275 000 visitors. According to polls made by the company, customers were attracted by the quality, functionality and low price of IKEA products. "Ever since we opened the store, our goal was to offer products with great features and of great quality, and with an attractive design that would be affordable for as many customers as possible", stated Cornel Oprişan, retail manager of Ikea Romania.
Furniture products amounted to some 60 percent of the total turnover of the Ikea Store in Băneasa, during January 1st - December 31st, 2008, with the remaining 40% consisting of accessories and home decoration items. Among furniture products, the best sellers were the Pax cupboard combinations, with over 27.600 units sold, the Faktum kitchen sets, with over 20.300 units sold, Billy modular library systems, with over 19.900 items sold, and products in the Klippan range (sofas, armchairs, deckchairs, footstools), with over 2.500 units sold.
The Ikea Store in Romania was the 253rd opened in the 35th country. In 2008, on all the four continents where Ikea has opened stores, the total number of visitors was 623 million, and the total number of catalogues distributed for the entire year 2008, was 198 million.
