Over 300,000 investors had over 5.35 billion lei invested in mutual funds at the end of September, most of them opting for low risk funds, according to statistics of the Association of Fund Managers (AAF).
The assets of Romanian investment funds increased 53.4% in the first nine months of 2010, whereas the number of investors increased 18.6% over the same period, to 303,092.
In Q3 2009, the amount of net purchases of mutual fund shares stood at nearly 384 million lei, an amount similar to that seen in the second quarter.
In the past three months, investors have only withdrawn money from diversified funds, (8.4 million lei), while stock funds saw 9 million lei of inflows.
In September, only seven funds attracted more than 1 million lei, of which four money market funds and two funds denominated in Euros.
