The Romanian currency may only see marginal losses, after rising to a nine-month high in the beginning of the week, because the Central Bank may fight the tendency of the domestic currency to depreciate, a report by ING bank states.
On Monday The Romanian Central Bank (BNR) displayed a reference rate of 4.1843 lei/Euro, down 2.05 bani, as opposed to the level of 4.2048 lei/Euro, recorded on Friday. A level this low was reached on June 2nd, 2010, when the exchange rate was 4.1835 lei/Euro. Yesterday, the Euro gained 0.22 bani, being quoted by the NBR at 4.1865 lei.
Analysts predict that the appreciation of the leu can be attributed to the intervention of the NBR.
