IntercontinentalExchange takes over Climate Exchange

IntercontinentalExchange Inc. of the USA (ICE) has decided to acquire Climate Exchange Plc, the owner of the world"s largest climate exchange, for 395 million pounds, (606 million dollars). The ICE already owned 4.8% of Climate Exchange.

ICE"s bidding company Aether Ios Ltd. will pay Climate Exchange shareholders 7.50 pounds a share, a 57 percent premium over yesterday"s closing price on the London exchange (4.78 pounds). The acquisition will be completed by the end of July.

ICE, the second largest futures market in the US - after CME Group Inc., said shareholders owning 48.7% of the Climate Exchange agreed to sell their shares. Its executives, including CEO Richard Sandor, accepted to sell their holdings, which amount to almost 19% of Climate Exchange. "Invesco Asset Management", the largest shareholder of Climate Exchange, accepted to sell its 30% stake.
