The University of Bucharest (UB) is, according to the first edition of the Times Higher Education - Interdisciplinary Science Rankings 2025, ranked 1st in Romania in terms of interdisciplinary scientific research. The ranking, compiled by Times Higher Education, in partnership with Schmidt Science Fellows, positions the University of Bucharest between 301 and 350. The Interdisciplinary Science Rankings 2025 analyzed the performance of 749 universities in 92 countries in terms of interdisciplinary scientific research. The ranking methodology is based on three indicators, starting from the implementation stages of research projects, Inputs, Process and Outputs. According to a press release from the organizers: "With a weight of 65%, Outputs target the reputation of researchers (25%), the quality of interdisciplinary scientific research (20%), the number of interdisciplinary scientific research publications (10%), the proportion of interdisciplinary scientific research publications in total publications (5%) and the usefulness of the research for society (5%). Inputs quantify 19% of the total score obtained by universities included in the Interdisciplinary Science Rankings 2025 and track how interdisciplinary scientific research is financed by industry (8%) or self-financed (11%) out of the total amounts allocated to research. Process, with a weight of 16% in calculating the final result, tracks how universities implement measures to increase interdisciplinary research (4%), provide facilities (4%) and administrative support (4%) to interdisciplinary research teams and have a promotion system that recognizes interdisciplinary research (4%)."
The university currently has 19 faculties offering 95 bachelor's programs, 223 master's programs, 23 doctoral schools in specific fields and a school for interdisciplinary doctoral studies, over 50 centers and nine research stations. Starting with 2019, UB is part of the European Civic University CIVIS along with ten other prestigious European universities, Aix-Marseille University, National and Kapodistrian University of Athens, Free University of Brussels, Autonomous University of Madrid, "Sapienza" University of Rome, Stockholm University, "Eberhard Karls" University of Tubingen, University of Glasgow, University of Lausanne and "Paris Lodron" University of Salzburg.
