• Fuel sales in gas stations decreased 7%
In the first semester of 2010, "OMV Petrom" invested around 1.8 million Euros in marketing, in particular in the rebranding of the PetromV stations. The total investments in gas stations for this year amount to approximately 4.9 million Euros, the officials of Petrom said.
The company currently owns 540 gas stations, and plans to open two more by the end of the year, Petrom officials said. In the near future, the company will focus on optimizing its operations and increasing efficiency, as well as on consolidating its marketing activities.
Sales of Petrom in its gas stations dropped 7% in H1 2010, in line with the overall trend of the market (which decreased 6%). The total sales volume derived from marketing activities of Petrom in Romania decreased 19% YOY in H1 2010. The market for oil based products dropped 12% in the aforementioned period.
The management of Petrom expects the level of sales derived from its marketing activities to remain under pressure until clearer signs of economic recovery manifest. "Given the downward trend for fuel consumption, our strategy will focus on the introduction of new non-oil services (ed. note: money transfers, utilities payments, etc), new promotional campaigns to attract consumers as well as to adapt our product portfolio to market conditions", the quoted sources said.
In the first half of 2010, just like in the previous years, Bucharest has remained the city with the largest sales of fuel.
