The Ministry of the Economy will make adjustments to the program for the privatization of the energy companies to earn more from them. Lucian Isar, the delegated minister for the business environment, said on Friday, during a conference: "The privatizations we have committed to the international institutions we would make will continue. We are a pro-business government. We just want to make some adjustments to the privatization program through the Stock Exchange to ensure that the government would earn more money. I am referring here to dual listings (ed. note: on the stock exchanges of London and Vienna) or other mechanisms that would bring us more money".
He said that the government is trying to position Romania as a place of interest for investors, being the only country in the region, which generates superior returns. Moreover, our country has lots of untapped mineral and oil resources which could generate new business opportunities.
• Private management for several state owned companies
Minister Isar also said that the Ministry of the Economy wants to bring private managers to several state owned companies, expanding the list of those that were agreed with the IMF. He said that the private management would bring a higher value to companies, as well as more credibility. The first private managers will be appointed at the end of June.
The delegated minister for the business environment has concluded that Romania will be affected by the situation in Greece, but it has the benefit of positioning itself in the region as a leader of the investment opportunities in the areas of transport infrastructure, energy and stock market. Mr. Isar concluded: "Until now, Romania has not made any major mistakes, but it also failed to seize the opportunities. It is time to stop missing out".
