Russia does not have the capacity to engage in a nuclear confrontation or long-distance strikes with the United States or NATO member states, according to Iulian Chifu, President of the Center for Conflict Prevention and Early Warning.

The specialist believes: "Of course, Russia wants to frighten the population and create pressure on governments, especially since there are election campaigns - they try to influence wherever they can, less in the USA, more in the Republic of Moldova, and even in Romania... However, we have the allied umbrella. Sure, if we are talking about conventional or hybrid warfare, we must prepare ourselves and strengthen our defense capabilities, but right now, Russia is busy with Ukraine, through Kursk."

Iulian Chifu says that probably after the election campaign, a strategic defense analysis will be carried out, and it will be seen what is needed to strengthen the country's defense system: "The first responder to any crisis is the national state, of course, with allied troops that are on our territory, with air policing, but the primary responsibility is with the state. We will need to look, in the new context, at what is necessary to compensate for what we lack.

However, when Sergey Lavrov, a 75-year-old person who has resigned eight times from the Ministry of Foreign Affairs and has never had his resignation accepted, comes and says something, we shouldn't make a big story out of it. Any comments on the subject amplify the original message and multiply their informational war."

Mr. Chifu's statements come in the context of recent remarks by Russian Foreign Minister Sergey Lavrov, who once again threatened nuclear war, addressing the United States, warning that a Third World War would not only affect Europe.
