Negotiations between the management and the union of the Kraft Foods factory in Brasov, Romania, were resumed yesterday. The union issued a press release indicating that "although we have taken serious steps to agree on a severance package that presents benefits to both parties, the management maintained the same unsatisfactory offer they presented the last time we met."

Kraft Foods Romania Corporate Affairs Manager Doina Cavache stated that the management"s offer was superior than the severance package stipulated in the framework labour agreement, that is, six salaries for those with a total length of employment below 20 years and nine salaries for those with a total length of employment above 20 years. The employees responded that the offer was "another example of lack of flexibility and openness that this company demonstrates."

In the aforementioned press release, the employees stated that the management representatives had repeatedly told them that the company had reached the limits of the budget. However, the employees are convinced that there is enough money to cover a global severance offer much superior to their demands. The company"s current offer is well below the one discussed during the first round of negotiations and also below the one that the management guaranteed to the employees upon announcing the forthcoming closure of the factory.
