National Liberal Party (PNL) President and candidate for the Presidency of Romania Crin Antonescu yesterday stated that the recently broken ruling coalition between the Democrat - Liberal Party (PD-L) and the Social Democratic Party (PSD) "has been making a mockery of Romania for nine months" with both parties being equally responsible for the ongoing political crisis.

Antonescu believes that the situation caused by the dismissal of Minister of Interior Dan Nica is a false crisis, "an operation initiated by the President and implemented by the Prime Minister." In his view, the only reason for triggering the crisis is to enable President Traian Basescu to achieve his dream of having a personal toy government during the elections, Agerpres reported.

Antonescu stressed that the National Liberal Party, the leading opposition party, had been one of the most ardent champions against the PSD - PDL coalition and was currently considering filing a no-confidence motion against "a Government lacking the support of a parliamentary majority." Antonescu further underlined that his party had not and would not negotiate with PD-L or PSD any possible return to the Government because both parties "should have taken responsibility before the Romanians for the disaster and the crisis they have brought upon this country."
