The Lipova Town Hall has earned 545,408 EUR in the form of a project to upgrade the local waste water treatment facility. The project has been developed in partnership with the Local Council of Csanadpalota - Hungary and the Zona Mako Water Plant. The project is part of the Romania Hungary Program PHARE CBC 2004 / Interreg III A. The local authorities" contribution to the co-financing scheme is 80,059 EUR. Mayor Viorel Popina explained that the investment was highly necessary as the existing treatment facility had stopped working in 1997 and waste waters were being flushed to Mures River boosting pollution levels to over ten-fold the acceptable limits. The new waste water treatment facility will service 3,977 households and 180 companies.
