The application of the Lisbon Strategy is a priority for Romania, according to the General Union of Industrialists in Romania (UGIR-1903), who convened recently in the form of a commission set up to work towards the application of the Strategy. The Lisbon Agenda of the EU, dated 2000, was intended to turn the European economy into the most competitive and dynamic economy in the world by 2010. Five years later, the Lisbon Agenda became the Lisbon Strategy and was centered on economic growth and job creation. UGIR"s commission intends to analyze the most adequate measures to apply the Lisbon Strategy in Romania through the involvement of UGIR members with a distinct focus on increasing the competitiveness of the Romanian economy through improved product quality, professional training and scientific research. UGIR believes Romania still has serious structural problems and needs to pay serious attention to competitiveness as a way to achieve long-term economic development.
