A new auction for the attribution of the rehabilitation and modernization of the infrastructure in the cross-border region Iaşi-Ungheni DJ 249 is scheduled for July 6th. The goal of the project is working on the road segment between Cristeşti and Mânzăteşti, between km 7+200 and km 9+900. The works will cost an estimated 2 million lei, VAT excluded. "The main works which will be performed as part of this project concern the reinforcement of the road structure, the correction of the geometrical elements, the leveling of the road"s surface, the collection and draining of rainwater, as well as road signs", Sebastian Tătaru, spokesperson for the County Council of Iaşi, said. The project is funded by the European Union, through the Program for Cross-border cooperation between Romania and the Republic of Moldova 2004 - 2006 PHARE CBC 2005, and its main goal is to rehabilitate the cross-border infrastructure. An auction for the awarding of this project was held almost two months ago, but it could not be knocked down, due to a challenge submitted by one of the seven bidders. The challenge was approved by the National Arbitration Council.
