The Romanian economy and therefore the real estate sector are joining the European Community, within a general globalization trend. DTZ Echinox specialists believe that large real estate developers running operations on several markets and having more financial power than local investors will also prove more efficient and profitable than their local competitors. Thus, local developers will focus on smaller projects or sell their business to foreign corporations.
Foreign companies come to Romania both to expand portfolio and to take advantage of higher profit margins than in the more competitive neighboring markets, not to mention Western markets. DTZ representatives say that foreign developers are not shy to accept higher construction costs for higher quality rather than take the risk of selling poor products that would later affect their reputation.
