A very good farming year could add up to 2 percent to the Y2008 economic growth, which could reach over 7%, according to Lucian Croitoru, an adviser to the governor of the National Bank of Romania (BNR). "The economic growth will be high for the entire year 2008, due to a potentially exceptional farming year, which could add one or maybe two percent to the gross domestic product growth," he said, quoted by NewsIn. The latest economic growth forecast by the National Prognosis Commission pointed to a 6.5% growth for this year, but it was published before the announcement of the 8.2% economic growth in the first quarter of the year. On 12 June, Economy & Finance Minister Varujan Vosganian said the forecast had been updated to 7.5% for the entire year. National Bank Governor Mugur Isarescu said earlier this month that the Q1 growth had been "fairly high" and could push the full-year figure well above estimates. "The economic growth for the first three months was higher than forecast, but not surprisingly high, and could indicate the risk that the economy is overheating," Isarescu said on 4 June.
