The Lugoj Town Hall will borrow 10 million EUR from Dexia Kommunalkredit Bank AG - Austria to finance several local projects. Dexia won the tender over Banca OPI - Italy and BCR - Romania. Dexia Board Member Pascal Becker said this was the bank"s first loan to a medium-sized town (some 50,000 inhabitants) and also a premiere for Romania - a 10 million EUR loan for 25 years with a 5 year grace period to a medium-sized town that is not a county seat. Lugoj is located 56 kilometers from Timisoara and close to Pan European Corridor 4. With this position, the town is likely to become an attractive alternative to "expensive" Timisoara for investors interested in greenfield projects.
