The Mayoralty of Arad assigned a 11,000 sqm plot of land over to the Ministry of Communications and Information Society (MCSI), for the building of a software park. The mayor of Arad, Gheorghe Falcă, said that the MCSI has an ongoing program for the creation of ten software parks across Romania. Mayor Falcă said that MCSI requested a plot of land with at least 5,000 square meters. "As the mayoralty owns a 10,000 sqm plot in the Western Industrial Area, near the Chamber of Commerce and Industry, we can assign it to the Ministry for Communication and Information Society, to allow them to complete their project", the mayor said. Given the economic and industrial status of the city, its geostrategic location, and the fact that Arad is an important university town, it was selected as the location of one of the ten software parks that the MCSI intends to build. Falcă said that work on the Software Park could begin in autumn 2009.
