Stefan Lupu, Mayor of Maneciu, yesterday told an environmental symposium held in the mountain resort of Cheia, that he would seek funding to rehabilitate the road from Cheia to the nearby tourist destination of Muntele Rosu. Approximately 3 million EUR is needed for the four kilometer road. "Our intention is to make Cheia into a resort of national interest by developing the tourism potential of this beautiful area," Lupu said. According to Agerpres, Mayor Lupu promised his voters several infrastructure and urban development investments, including two skiing slopes, a 300 cubic meter water reservoir, an improved sewerage system and an emergency center. The small village of Cheia has grown in the recent years by some 750 holiday cottages, four hotels and 25 bed & breakfast motels.
