GPS maker "Mio Technology", last year sold 32,000 unit out of the estimated total market volume of around 60,000 units, which means the company"s market share represents over 50%, with the company selling 7,000 units in Q4 2009.

"Our results in 2009 confirm that the strategic approach that we chose this year was the right one, said Sergiu Gânscă, Sales and Marketing Manager "Mio" for Romania.

On a local level, consumers showed an increased interest in products which featured a dedicated map of Romania, which accounted for 20% of the total sales.

For the current year, "Mio" officials consider that the domestic market for GPS devices can accommodate a volume of 60,000 units sold, similar to that of 2009. However, the company expects increased demand for premium devices, which provide additional functionality and improve the travel experience of their users.

"GPS equipment still has a huge potential, given the large number of vehicles and the low market penetration for this type of product on the domestic market (less than 10%). This is why we stand behind our commitment to educate the market and help it grow, thus allowing us to meet the consumers" needs, which will cause them to make more informed purchasing decisions", said Mr. Gânscă.
