MOL Romania reported a turnover of approximately 114 million EUR for the first quarter of the current year. The company implemented a network optimisation strategy followed by an 11.4% rise in sales volume per site compared with the same period last year, according to a company press release.

After the transaction with Petrom, following which MOL sold 30 filling stations and acquired 11 new stations in towns where it wasn"t present, MOL"s retail market share fell 0.5%, from 13% to 12.5% in the first three months of 2007. Fuel sales dropped 4% compared with the similar period last year. The 11.4% increase in diesel sales did not compensate for the 21.7% drop in gasoline sales. Also, following the reduction in the number of filling stations, shop sales fell 3.5% in the first quarter compared with the year-ago quarter.

MOL Romania is part of MOL Group, the largest integrated oil company in Central and Eastern Europe. Together with its Slovak partner Slovnaft a.s. and Croatia based INA, the Group operates over 1,000 filling stations in eleven countries in the region.
