Social-Democrat senator Sorin Bota yesterday submitted with the Senate a draft bill for the creation of a National Pact for the construction of highways and express roads, according to press agency Agerpres.
Mr. Bota said that the strategies of the former and the current government both included such a pact, but, unfortunately, "when it comes to the construction of highways, nothing is being done, since there isn"t a general program that all governments would be forced to comply with".
The program proposed by Bota involves the construction of 2,460 kilometers of highway, at a cost of 23 billion Euros, and the appendix of the project includes the schedule for each highway segment and specifies the available financial resources.
Over EUR 3 billion would be invested in this project between 2012 and 2014, out of which EUR 950 million would come from the state budget.
Sorin Bota mentioned that the amount allocated from the budget is "in line with what the state will earn following an investment of 3 billion Euros over the course of one year" and added that the state would see a return on its infrastructure investments.
