One Quarter Of February"s Gas Consumption Imported

Romania"s overall natural gas consumption in February has been estimated at 17.39 million MWh equivalent by the National Energy Regulatory Authority (ANRE). Of this amount, 7.9 million MWh is the demand on the captive market, while 8 million MWh is the demand of consumers able to select their provider. According to ANRE"s report, the technological consumption will be 1.29 million MWh in February. A total of 13.2 million MWh is covered by the domestic production, of which 10 million MWh is the current production. Natural gas imports will reach some 3 million MWh, of which 1 million MWh is the current import volume.

For the first quarter of the year, ANRE has forecast a demand of 21.6 million MWh for the regulated market, of which 16.2 million MWh (75%) will come from domestic sources. The remaining 5.4 million MWh will be imported. In January, the overall natural gas demand was estimated at 19.4 million MWh, of which 78.12% came from domestic resources. Imports accounted for approximately 21.88% of the demand. The regulated market required 8.5 million MWh, while the competitive market needed some 9 million MWh.
