Mobile telephony company Orange Romania concluded last year with a gross profit of 6,408 billion ROL (196 million USD), which is double the year 2002 profit of 3,185 billion ROL. Last year's sales amounted to 17,197 billion ROL (527 million USD), up by 150 million USD against 2002 (12,061 billion ROL or 370 million USD). At the end of last year, the company had 3.3 million customers, against 2.2 million a year before.
Orange Romania has also reported Q1 revenue of 161 million USD and a total of 3.6 million customers. Mobil Rom changed name to Orange Romania in the spring of 2002. The company is controlled by Orange SA, which resulted from the takeover of British-based Orange by France Telecom in the year 2000. Other shareholders include Wirefree Services Belgium, Tomen Corporation, Alcatel, PEF Holdings and eight companies having less than two percent each.
