Orange Romania Announces Q1 Results

Orange Romania reported revenues of 307 million EUR in Q1:2008, up by 8.4% y/y, and an ARPU of 126.7 EUR. At the end of March, the company counted 10,009,975 customers, up by 21% y/y. Wider coverage of the broadband network, redefined mobile data offers and the introduction of complete solutions for broadband internet access packaged with laptops for discounted prices led to a 144% increase in the number of broadband internet customers in Q1 to 1,047,000.

Orange Romania CEO Richard Moat said the results were in line with the scheduled objectives. The company will further focus on expanding the broadband network and developing new convergent services of mobile telephony, fixed-line telephony and internet.

France Telecom also announced Q1 results, including revenues of 13.027 billion EUR, up from 12.844 billion EUR in the first quarter of 2007.

On a comparable basis, the increase in Group revenues was sustained for the third consecutive quarter, reaching 3.7% year-on-year in the first quarter of 2008, after a rise of 3.6% in the fourth quarter of 2007 and 3.5% in the third quarter of 2007.

France Telecom includes Romania among the countries with a high growth potential, alongside Poland, Botswana, Cameroon, Central African Republic, Cote d"Ivoire, Dominican Republic, Egypt, Equatorial Guinea, Guinea, Guinea-Bissau, Jordan, Kenya, Madagascar, Mali, Mauritius, Mexico, Moldavia, Niger, Republic of Vanuatu, Senegal, Slovakia and Vietnam.

The number of France Telecom customers gained 30.3% to 46.8 million at the end of Q1, including 11 million customers attracted over the past year in Egypt, Romania, Mali, Cote d"Ivoire and Madagascar.
