The majority of Romanians offer sweets as gifts for the winter holidays, instead of buying durable presents, according to a recent study by research institute "GfK" Romania. The report shows that things which Romanians will offer as gifts this season include: sweets (56.5%), clothing items and shoes (39%), decorations (28%), games and toys (24%) and cosmetics.

Far fewer Romanians expressed their interest in buying household appliances (9%), IT equipment, communications and electronic devices (4%) or other telecommunications services (1%).

Romanians buy IT equipment and telecom devices to have around the house, as well as to offer them as presents to children, whereas other electronic devices and telecom services are intended for family use.

Among household appliances, the most frequently mentioned are food processors, washing machines and microwave ovens. The list of IT&C equipment that Romanians intend to buy this holiday include mobile phones and desktops, and most of the Romanians interested in electronic devices will opt for digital cameras and TV sets (standard TVs as well as plasma and LCD models).

Around 2 out of 10 Romanians said they don"t have any planned purchases this holiday - in particular in the case of people aged 50 or older, people living alone or who have no children, as well as in the case of people earning less than 700 lei.
