Following a six month survey of wireless network users, "Computer Troubleshooters" Romania found that, in 90% of these cases there is the need for the intervention of an IT specialist in installing and configuring the network, to prevent any subsequent attacks. Over 60% of wireless network users are exposed to cybernetic attacks, a press release sent to our editors states.
Security issues were the main hurdle on switching to wireless networks, as the first security standards proved inefficient, and thus, many visitors began fearing the use wireless solutions. However, last year saw a rise in the number of domestic wireless network users. "Computer Troubleshooters" says that in the case of companies, most of them use wireless technology, therefore data security should be a priority. In spite of this, international studies show that around 64% of companies neglect the security of their Wireless Area Networks. Just 47% of these companies use adequate protection and encryption systems, and less than 30% use any form of network intrusion prevention, according to the same study.
80% of the time, wireless networks are configured by network owners themselves or by one of their acquaintances. Issues that "Computer Troubleshooters" encounter frequently range from the simplest problems, such as incorrect installation of the networks, incorrect router operation, and more severe issues, such as cybernetic attacks. The latter range from unauthorized computer access to infection with dangerous viruses.
According to "Computer Troubleshooters", one issue that affects the operations of companies, is the inadequate selection or installation of the equipment, in order to cut expenses, which can cause losses that far outweigh any such savings.
