The Chamber of Deputies yesterday approved the appointment of a commission to investigate the privatisation of Iasi-based pharmaceutical company Antibiotice. The decision passed with 244 votes in favour, seven against and eight abstentions. The commission to determine whether the factory should be privatised and will also evaluate how such decision may impact the price of medicines.

The commission will also investigate the refusal of the State Assets Recovery Authority (AVAS) to carry out the ruling of the Iasi County Court of Appeal to suspend the privatisation. The decision to appoint a commission was made upon request from the Chamber of Deputies Health Committee, which pointed out that, while the court had ruled to suspend the privatisation, AVAS continued to advertise the privatisation opportunity in the media.
