The International Federation of Football (FIFA) seems willing to make significant concessions in pursuit of substantial financial gains. The concessions made to football in the Arab region, known for its limitless financial resources, are evident and continue to fuel the ambitions of nations in the area. The Saudi Arabian Football Federation (SAFF) has formally submitted its letter of intent and signed a declaration to bid for the hosting rights of the 2034 FIFA World Cup. Saudi Arabia announced its intention to bid for the 2034 edition of the tournament last Wednesday, and the letter of intent, signed by SAFF President Yasser Al Misehal, commits the kingdom to the bid process, as reported by the Saudi Press Agency.
SAFF states that Saudi Arabia's bid is a historic step that reflects the country's desire to open new opportunities in football at all levels and its commitment to supporting the development of the sport worldwide. Al Misehal emphasized that submitting the bid is the second step in a very exciting journey for Saudi Arabia. Since 2018, Saudi Arabia has hosted over 50 international sporting events, including football, motorsport, tennis, equestrian, esports, and golf.
The 2022 World Cup was hosted by Qatar and brought FIFA substantial revenue but also sparked numerous controversies, from changing the tournament's schedule to concerns about the treatment of workers involved in stadium construction.
