Petrom yesterday inaugurated a new natural gas processing unit for in Midia, near Constanţa. With a capacity nearly double that of the old installation, the unit can take over the entire offshore natural gas production of Petrom, according to a press release sent to our editors.
The Midia unit was designed and built through a purchase, designing and construction contract by German company Linde Group, with the help of subcontractors in Romania, Germany, Ukraine and Hungary. The project has a value of about 90 million Euros.
Petrom produces associated and free gas from the rigs of Petrom in the Black Sea, which require processing before being injected into the National Transport System. The Midia Unit processes the collected gas in order to bring up to the requirements needed for it to be sold, by removing heavy compounds from gases such as propane, butane and pentane.
The unit can process up to 3.8 millions of cubic meters a day and has a rate of recovery of heavy compounds from the gas processed of up to 99%, which allows an output of 340 tons of condensed gas a day. What"s more the installation at Midia has its own electric power cogeneration plant, with a capacity of 10 MW, cwith a redundant capacity of steam generation of 200 tons/day. These allow the Midia unit to operate independently from any other external source of electrical power.
